2023 FINA Update for Officials

Please see below a statement from British Swimming regarding the 2023 FINA Rules update:

World Aquatics (FINA) is currently reviewing its technical rules in all disciplines. In respect of swimming, the revised rules, covering the 2023-25 period, were published on 3 January 2023. The British Swimming Swimming Officials Group will shortly circulate details of the new rules, create training materials and determine a suitable date for their implementation.

The new rules should NOT therefore be applied at swimming competitions held in England until the implementation date is determined.

County Age Group Championships should therefore be judged in their entirety under prevailing Swim England Laws, Regulations and Technical Rules of Swimming, WITHOUT reference to revised 2023-25 FINA Technical Rules.

Volunteers Needed in Nottinghamshire

The world of swimming like many sports has been hit hard over the last few years. We have seen a number of our athletes and volunteers fade away from the sport.

Our sport is run mainly by volunteers and this includes the County Assocciation. We are currently recruiting for volunteers to take on some of our “behind the scenes” roles.

Nottinghamshire ASA have a few different committees with representatives from most clubs within the county that all come together to help run everything in the county. This can be from the day to day running of the accounts, looking after the county swim squad, low level competitions, open meets and county championships.

We are currently looking for volunteers to come onboard to help with many roles including secretary roles, treasurer roles, competition management, officials co-ordination just to name a few.

If you are interested in taking up any of these roles within the county please get intouch with use at web.admin@notts-swimming.co.uk where we will be able to direct your interest to the correct people.

New FINA swim suit

There have been a small number of instances recently where the wearing of a two-piece female race suit has been challenged.

The suit in question is the Arena Powerskin Carbon duo, which consists of a jammer style leg suit with a bodysuit over the top and can be viewed at https://www.arenasport.com/en_uk/powerskin-carbon-duo

This suit was launched in 2019 but obviously due to the limited number of competitions seen in 2020 and 2021, there have not been many opportunities for it to be seen in action.

For the avoidance of doubt, this is a FINA approved suit and bears the FINA approval logo on both parts. Swimmers wearing this suit with the logo on both parts for competition should not be challenged.
