County Competition Update

We hope that you are all doing well and keeping safe in these unprecedented times that the world is facing at the moment. Nottinghamshire ASA have been working away behind the scenes to keep in touch with our clubs and also keep looking at the advice given to us regarding the holding of competitions.

The world is in very hard times and we are all gutted that we have had to cancel almost a whole years’ worth of competitions, which has not been seen in peace time.

Swim England have now released a statement last week regarding the changes to County Championships 2021 and also previous statements that have been published regarding a new “Level X” style virtual competition.

The Nottinghamshire ASA Swimming Committee who organises the county competitions have now had meetings direct with Swim England and we are now in a position to share this information with you.

You can view the statement from Swim England here.

Swim England have formally moved the County Championship window and therefore we have now cancelled the County Championships in the normal window of January and February. With the information from Swim England we have PROVISIONALLY booked the following dates in 2021 to look at holding our County Championships:

30th May 2021
20th June 2021
4th July 2021
17th July 2021 (1/2 day)
18th July 2021

All of the above dates are provisional depending on what happens and any other restrictions that may come into place between now and the dates above.

We also believe that under the current situation, it would be wrong for us to start looking at a schedule of events or any sort of qualification times or even a qualification method, as we do not know what extra restrictions may come into force or what format we may have to hold the county championships in.

As the Swim England announcement states, over the coming months there will be regular meetings between the Swimming Leadership Group and the County Swimming Coordinators to put plans in place for the revised Championships. It is still the intention to hold the Regional Championships in the normal window, although again like our County Championships, this is provisional and in what format and qualification method they will use is still in discussion.

The Nottinghamshire Swimming Committee want to reassure you that we are doing everything we can and taking all of the advice we can to help all of you return to competitions in a safe manner.

There is a lot of information circulating regarding the “Level X” style competitions where you will be able to hold a form of time trials within your “training bubbles”, where your times will be allowed to go into the national rankings under this new level x banner. Please note that all of this information is still being finalised and currently trialled amongst some clubs around the UK.

As soon as we get more information we will circulate this with all of the club.

We hope that you are all healthy and keeping safe.
