Colwick Park Annual Long Distance Swimming Championships 2009

The water may have been just 14 degrees, but over 120 people entered Colwick Park's annual open water event on 17 May. Novices took on the 1km loop of West Lake, whilst others took on 2 and 4km events. The event is swum under BLDSA rules - so no body suits!

Notts swimmers featured really well, with swimmers coming from Newark, Bramcote, Leander, Colwick Park and Nottingham Swimming Clubs.

ASA National 3k Masters 2008

Wayne Stott again won his age group at the 2008 asa National 3k Masters championships. The wind whipped up the water at Holme Pierrepont so that it was more like a rough sea swim than a lake!

Wayne won the 35-39 age group with a time of 40min 44seconds, putting him second fastest overall. Another former Nottinghamshire swimmer, Craig Kirkland, won the 40-44 years age group with 43min 10seconds. Craig is still the county record holder on 50m freestyle short course from 1985!

Helen Gorman and Steph Brakespear were the fastest two female swimmers. Helen won the 35-39 year age group with 44min 42seconds and Steph won the 30-34 years with 48min 46seconds.

Nottinghamshire swimmers do well in the masters events, but entries were limited into the age group and open events. Open water swimming is great fun, and now an Olympic sport. Why not have a go?

Swimming in open water is exactly how swimming should be, no chlorine, no tiles - feel the sun on your back (hopefully) and swim past ducks and trees. Lovely!
