Our Swimmer of the Year is Michael Hanby. Michael's progress this year has been outstanding. Since winning the National Age Group title in the 13/14 year old age group last year he has developed in to one of the best competitors in the country. He has progressed to the stage where he now holds both senior and junior county records.
This year he has been selected for the England Youth Team and for the Great Britain junior team for the European Youth Championships which were held in Rome recently. Michael's performances at these championships were outstanding, in the 100 freestyle he was placed 6th and was top boy for his age. In the 200 freestyle he recorded a new senior County Record of 1.56.9, again placing 6th, but one must remember that he can still compete in these championships next year. Michael was also a member of the silver medal winning and bronze medal winning teams n the 4x100 mts and 4x200 mts freestyle events, the first time Great Britain has won medals in both of these team events at the European Junior Championships. Michael is a hard working, dedicated swimmer, his success is no fluke, he has worked hard and conscientously all year with a single target in mind. I am sure that if he keeps up his application to the sport we are going to hear a lot more, not just in Nottinghamshire, but in international swimming circles from Michael Hanby. |
